How does the anti-wrinkle or dermal filler injections treatment process work?

During a consulation, the Nurse Injector (Kristel) will listen to you and your needs. Then Kristel will provide you with information on treatment based on your needs. If you both are agreeable on these recommendations, Kristel will obtain informed consent on the proposed treatment. Kristel will then continue with treatment, take before and after pictures, and provide you with post-procedure health teaching.

How do anti-wrinkle injections work?

Kristel will inject the targeted muscles with eaith Botox® or Dypsort™ for cosmetic purposes to temporatrily lessen muscle activity and/or reduce the occurrence of wrinkles.

Will anti-wrinkle injections make me look like I have had work done?

Having anti-wrinkle injections should not appear as though you've had work done if done be a licensed and trained professional. Your ability to show facial expression should not be diminished as your Nurse Injector (Kristel) is knowledgable and aware of facial anatomy. It is important that you inform Kristel on what your expected outcome is prior to initiating any treatment.

Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?

It is common to feel a pinch during injection treatment. Kristel will use a small fine needle to inject targeted area. At times, numbing the area with ice may be used. Speak to Kristel if you have any addtional concerns.

What were common side effects seen in clinical studies?

With every procedure there is always a risk of some side effects. A common side effect post procedure can be slight discomfort, bruising and swelling to the injection sites for a few days after treatment. Kristel will provide you with informed consent on the possibility that a side effect or complicaiton my occur. According to clinical studies, 3% of patients experienced eyelid droop, and 1% of patients experienced eyelid swelling. Other possible side effects include; dry mouth, tiredness, headache, neck pain, eye problems, double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, dry eyes and allergic reactions. With any injection, there is also a risk of infection. Many serious effects are seen when large amounts of the product are injected, as opposed to small amounts used for cosmetic purposes. When will the results be visible?

Full results take approximately 2 weeks. Botox® results may last up tot 4 months. Research suggests Dysport™ has a faster onset than Botox® and has been seen to last longer then Botox®. It is always advisable to schedule treatments a few weeks before any wedding or big event to ensure that you are healed and have acheived full results.

What are the difference between Botox® and Xeomine ?

Both Botox® and Xeomin® are neurotxins (forms of Botulinum Toxin Type A) that have been approved for minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. The unit of each anti-wrinkle product is not interchangable as each product is diluted differently. Speak to Kristel to see which one is appropriate for your needs and required outcome.

What will happen if you decide to try anti-wrinkle injections and then stop?

There is a myth that if you stop using anti-wrinkle injections, your face will look wrinkly and you will look more aged than even before starting treatment. But in fact, it is shown that if you decide to stop, your face returns to its normal features, with the muscels back to its original strength and movement.

Who should avoid getting anti-wrinkle injections?

Please be advised that clients who are immunocompromised, pregnant/breastfeeding women shoudl avoid treatment. Also clients who have a bleeding discorder, neuro-muscular diseases (like myasthenia gravis, Lamberton-Eaton syndrome, ALS, have motor-neuropathy), allergy to human albumin, current infection or flu like illness, and/or are in unstable medical condition should avoid getting anti-wrinkle injections for safety. If you are taking any antibotics, NASIDs, blood thinners, or have a true allergy to milk (not just lactose intolerant) please inform Kristel prior to starting treatment.

Are there any side effects with dermal fillers (including lip injections)?

Common side effect with dermal fillers like mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising are usually temporaty and subside within a few days. There is also a chance you may not receive the intended result you anticipated, or have palpable lumps. WIth any injection, there is also risk of more serious compications like infection or intravascular complications, vision abnormalities, anaphylaxis, and tissue damage. Although the risk of these serious complications and risks are rare, it is important for you, the client to be aware of them and to speak to Kristel for further information. Clients who are prone to cold sores may get an outbreak. If you have Herpes (HSV-1) please consult your physician as you may require a course of antiviral medication prior to procedure.

Are dermal fillers painful?

Most dermal fillers have an anaesthetic lidocaine as part of the dermal filler and lip injection, which helps iwth possible discomfort during the procedure. Also, prior to most dermal fillers (including lip injections) a topical numbing cream is applied. After the procedure, it is advised to ice the treated area to decrease inflammation and risk of discomfort.

Are dermal fillers and lip injections reversible?

Yes. Most dermal fillers and lip injections have Hyaluronic acid, which has a specific reversing agent known as Hyaluronidase that can safely break the product down. The product will breakdown and dissolve over 24 hours.

Are demal fillers and lip injections safe?

All the dermal fillers used at Five Senses are Hyaluronic Acid based - a molecule naturally found in our skin and body. Also the dermal filler used are Health Canada approved for use.

Who should avoid dermal fillers and lip injections?

It is safer to avoid dermal fillers and or lip injections if you have any current infection (including the skin, especially if it is inflamed) or viral illness and are also prone to cold sores (see dermal filler side effects), until it's resolved. Dermal filler should be delayed if you have any inflammatory condition of the skin like active cysts, pimples or rashes, until this inflammatory condition is managed. Also, it is best to avoid dermal fillers completely, if you have any allergy to lidocaine and anaphylaxis of unknown origin, or have a bleeding disorder.

Will dermal fillers and lip injections look natural?

With the correct technique and expertise of our Nurse Injector, Kristel, you should obtain a natural appearance. Hyaluronic Acid based fillers are approved for use on the face and are made to mimic the feeling of facial and dermal structures.

What are the benefits of Xeomin®?

A benefit of Xeomin® is that it contains no additives, thereby results in fewer allergic reactions and chances of building a tolerance to the product. It is a safe and effective means to improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
